Dear John (YOU)

I am leaving you. You were an OK partner and a good friend, though we didn't really get to know eachother. You were mostly at after-parties smoking pot and I was busy with my band. We should stay in touch.

We unearthed the mammoth [ it's a weird metaphor, I know ] because we were curious. And had nothing else to do. But I think it's time we put the mammoth back into the frozen ground. It'll be our secret.
